Cadilac Kiss

I sat against the fender of this bronze 1962 Cadilac.

I was 13. It was 1974. She was 13. It was Denver

and I could see my face in the inside rear view mirror.

Was I wanting to be older. No.

Was I wanting the night to last longer. The night was perfect.

We were all out in the neighborhood, some around the corner.

Life is perfect. My best friend was Eddie. He was two years older than I was.

He ran away when his family moved. I was in love with life. And still am.

I am 65 and the days are perfect. Eddie passed in 1988. I never had a family.

At 65 I am completely alone except those who care for me.

I have a cyst on my brain on the left side. It takes some negotiations.

I talk with Eddie all day long. I don’t gauge the day. The day is good.
