Tapestry

I went to a specialized school. My MSW said last week that it was an open concept school of the sixties and seventies. One of the most prominent in the country. I was hurt in 1967 very badly. I had the best plastic surgeon in the state and they had a Social Worker for me. And my father was being investigated on Apollo One. My Social Worker helped arrange my father’s merger with his next company and the location so I could attend this school for rehabilitation. The muscles in my face. The hit to the left cortex. But I remembered it being a traditional school with six classes… because it was a hybrid and you could choose which and I had chosen what my parents later reinforced for me. I chose to be with the other kids. And so they made other accomidations for me. Speech Pathology and Audiology was told to not take me away from class. The HS students who had been brought in to teach Eddie and I foreign languages taught us after school after classrooms at their parent’s homes. And Eddie got his wish to be my tutor. He was a genius. And two years older than I was and my neighbor so he said it was his place to be my tutor in second grade. And it was his idea that we use languages because I was so thrilled by learning from the HS kids. Together he and I learned linguistics. We taught ourselves with help from the teachers. And Eddie had me teach him so that he said in that way they could get past the obstacles of my way of thinking as a task set up to teach Eddie. My family said I never knew him. My family was not a nice family. They weren’t. Sorry. But I had a friend. And that was all I needed instead. I grew up without the friendships of a father and with the distant stare of my mother. But I had Eddie, and French, and Italian, and a friend studying for his Bar mitzvah that we studied with and I was more than happy and a neighbor investigating my father with an FBI officer down the street. The man was the lead prosecutor in the DA’s Office and he and his wife were Eddies and my friend for life. And the school made decisions on my education without telling my family. And I have an IQ of 192. To me the name of that school is now Tapestry.
