When I was a child

the ocean welcomed me to California.

Welcomed me home. In the Heartland

the ocean reminded me. And it stayed in my heart.

Down the street if I could remember.

One thing is true I will never forget.

And the roar of the ocean waves.

The smell of salt in the air.

Here I was alive. Here I was safe.
