Wishes and a drumstick. A little bit before the door

opened and closed. The cold; where have you gone when you are

all alone. Does the Counter woman care when you get up to leave.

You have shared about 20 minutes of your lifes.

I am a woman about 63, she says. And the candles

are from my kids. Yes, she will care. Is there enough?

Is that enough? So, what if there wasn’t?

There is only one option and one answer…

one foot in front of the other. I have a friend.

He’s on the phone and he would like to talk with you, I said to the waitress.

What, she says? He’d like to talk to you, I answered.

Is he my age?

He just wants to talk, I said. Yes, she says, yes I am.

And then comes the Apple Pie with whip cream.

Have you got a home, she asks? Yes.

Good. I am relieved. And the Apple Pie was good?

You don’t have a lot, she continues. I have enough to say thank you,

pay you and to say, thank you.

Does it make a difference to have someone when you step outside,

but that’s not it. What it is I am not sure.
