There was a piece of Licorish on the table.
An open window where the cat came in.
A bed and a comforter. And a sleeping Tiger.
And a small man in the corner saying over and over….
There was a piece of….
My name is Albert Gray. I live in Hanton, Va.
I live 5 blocks away. There is a woman down the street
mowing her lawn while three children paint her front porch.
And fix the leaning wooden post. Her sister
brings out lemonade and those English shortbread cookies.
The tv is on with a football game with the youth minister
and her husband watching.
There is a car pulling down the street that has just gone through the drive in
at Captain D’s where the driver’s daughter works. There is a cost to
everything except for the evening paper with the paperboy tossing the news
in an arc above the front bushes and bouncing slightly off the front
door and onto the concrete porch. My name is Albert Gray I turned 36
today. I was born in Hanton, Va. I have no family of my own or one
that I was born from. The wind comes down the street through the city.
The river is a beautiful place to walk in the downtown district.
The park hosts impromptu artists to sing and play instruments sponsored by
the Unitarian Church in town. I turn left on Clark Street and follow the smell
of the food trucks at the park. What are my desires in life. What are my
wishes. I have three. I have three wishes in life. To be satisfied. To desire.
And to be successful.
