Pocket Watch

In the summer of 1968, we went to Disneyland.

I am assuming it was ’68. It was before ’69.

At Christmas when we would get together

I would hear stories about when we were young.

One day I realized those were not memories.

That I had no memories of Disneyland.

Or anything. Not the furniture in my bedroom,

nothing.

The last time that I talked to my mother in 2019

I was chatting after doing her yard work while

she was on her iPad, and I mentioned

a local woman as an actress and my mother responded

that I make these things up. I responded

but here is her IMDB Page and she ignored me.

It was the last time that I talked to her.

My sister told me that she had a stroke in 2022

and that I should call her and I did not.

It has been four years.

She passed in November of 2023.

It has been sixteen years since I have talked to my brother

who has stage 3 colon cancer.

My mother’s three brothers have just passed of colon cancer.

I am left with one Aunt and my cousins.

My mother had come over in 2019 and asked if I

would sign over my inheritance to make it easier for her.

My father had passed in 2015. I had taken care of him for

five months in the nursing home… you know.

I signed it over without asking questions.

What is important to me… Kit Carson.

You know.
