Gus Grissom was found in the capsule
in Apollo One when they entered, against the cockpit
door trying to get it to release. The oxygen had burnt in the fire
and suctioned the door in. My father never
told anyone in our new city about his earlier company,
nor did he ever tell anything about his company to his grandkids.
On his death bed two days before my father died with my mother on
one side and myself on the other my father raised one hand
to the ceiling to his mother in Heaven and said,
if I can just get past the flames.
He repeated it five times, And then he said,
I made it.
